Good for practicing emotions

Sometimes you just need a quiet toy. There are no batteries, no flashing lights, and no repetitive songs. My son will sit quietly for twenty minutes just swapping the ears and mouths around to see what silly combinations he can make.

Getting the little eyes and noses perfectly aligned on the board takes a bit of concentration. It’s been great practice for my 3-year-old's hand-eye coordination. She gets very proud when she makes the face look exactly like the reference cards.

I bought this hoping it would be a good travel toy since it's magnetic, but there are just too many loose parts. Unless you want to be fishing wooden pig ears out from under the car seat, keep this one as an at-home activity.

My toddler managed to get jelly all over the koala ears, but because the paint finish is so smooth and well-sealed, it wiped right off with a damp paper towel without leaving a stain. The colors are very vibrant in person.

If your kid is prone to dropping things, make sure they play with this on a rug, not a glass coffee table.

Besides just building animals, we use this to talk about feelings. I'll ask my son to make a "sad koala" or an "angry pig" by slanting the eyebrows or turning the mouth upside down. It’s a really interactive way to discuss emotions.

The quality of the wooden pieces is fantastic, very smooth with no splinters. However, the cardboard box it comes in is pretty flimsy and ripped after a week of my toddler trying to shove the heavy wooden base back into it. You'll need to find your own sturdy container for this.

The concept is great and my son loves it

We originally bought this thinking she would match the faces to the cards, but she thinks it's much funnier to put pig ears on the bear's head. The magnets snap into place satisfyingly and are strong enough that the pieces don't slide down when she stands the wooden base upright.

My son is working on his coordination and this set is just perfect. Picking up the small eyes and ears and placing them on the animal face is great practice. It’s adorable, very well constructed, and offers tons of combinations to keep him busy.

We take this on long trips and it keeps my son engaged for ages. He loves "changing the face" of the little animal over and over. It’s sturdy, well-made, and the pieces fit together nicely. Really a fantastic, simple toy for encouraging creative play.
